What Customers Say About Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter):

Inside she is strong, determined, and of course, stubborn. Guilty Pleasures is the first in the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series by Laurell Hamilton. Louis.I was surprised to enjoy this series as much as I did. I can't wait to read more of the series as well as the Merideth Gentry books also by Hamilton.

However, because of the somewhat graphic scenes in the club, and with Phillip, I would not recommend this book for anyone under the age of 16. I am intrigued by Anita's relationships with both Jeane Claude and Edward, and can't wait to read more about them in later books. If you are thinking about reading the Anita Blake series, but are unsure that it is for you, I would definitely suggest buying Guilty Pleasures and deciding for yourself. Guilty Pleasures grabbed my attention within the first chapter, and help it throughout the entire book.I'm still not sure about the sexual nature of this book, although I'll admit, it could have been worse. Normally when I start a new novel, the book has about 25 - 50 pages to really capture my attention if I'm going to like it.

She has read most of the series and promised I wouldn't regret it. I also liked the fast paced nature of the book. It follows the story of animator and vampire slayer, Anita Blake through the street (and parties) of St. Anita stands behind her beliefs of not helping vampires.

I loved the idea of a petite woman like Anita being the heroine of the story. When I bought the first book, I only did so upon recommendation from one of my close friends. She was right.

The writing was good, and thorough. Action, romance, a little bit of humor, some sad bits. The heroine, Anita was great. I don't know why I didn't start reading the series sooner. Loved it. It was action packed, and I wasn't bored a single minute. It was as good as everyone says it is. It had everything I liked in a book.

After all, if they don't get better how in the world do you explain the series lasting through 19 books. In any event, I still have the 3 books left in the series, and since I own them I am going to attempt to read. I felt no connection with any of the characters, except maybe for Phillip (and that lasted only briefly given his fate). P.S. Instead the story jumped around and had an extremely confusing structure (or lack of structure). I purchased the first four books of this series in a set and I have finally, after 2 weeks of struggling to motivate myself to keep reading, finished the first book.

Unlike the Dead Until Dark series, this story seemed to drag. I'm hoping they get better. I'd like to note that 2 weeks is a very long time for me to take to read a book this size. Maybe I've been spoiled after reading Charlaine Harris's quick wit and enthralling story line. Unfortunately, Guilty Pleasures is a terrible name for this book. I read all nine Sookie Stackhouse novels in a week and a half.

They story left much room for improvement, and the only thing that kept me going was that I kept thinking through every page I turned that the story would get better.

I am currently reading the Laughing Corpse and am eagerly anticipating the ever sensual Jean Claude's appearance in the book. I found it hard to lay the book down but decided to pace myself so I could enjoy it longer. Thank you Laurell, my mind is enjoying it. Wow, what more can you say. Violence, romance, vampires, and Anita Blake made for many hours of enjoyment.

There weren't as many twists and turns as I would have liked and the plot was somewhat predictable. I also felt like the plot was missing a little something but it's hard to put my finger on. I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of it and how Anita was a strong no - nonsense female lead. I did enjoy the book, and will continue to get the next in line books from the library. I did not find this book seductive or sexy in any way, except for one small part that took up a few pages. I am a big fan of the vampire genre, so I picked up this book recently.

I really enjoyed them (partially) being the good guys like in Twilight and the Sookie novels so I had a little getting used to reading Guilty Pleasures. The best way I can describe it is that it was missing the "can't put it down" quality. I just got done reading the Sookie Stackhouse series, which claimed to appeal to fans of the Anita Blake series. Sure there was a little lusting, but no buildup or anticipation to see what's going to happen between Anita and Phillip or Anita and Jean-Claude, etc. This isn't one I would want to go out and buy or read more than once. In the Anita Blake novels, the vamps are mostly evil with the few exceptions.

It was a good, easy read, but I found myself missing the romance.
